Growth of Shincheonji Believers in Daegu and Gyeongbuk Due to “Systematic Education”

While the number of Protestants in Korea are expected to decrease by about 32% from this year to 2050 according to the Pastoral Data Research Institute, Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony, has been showing steady growth for over 30 years.
One of the main reasons for this difference is cited to be the systematic education of the word.
The Shincheonji Thaddaeus tribe, which is one of the 12 tribes of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, has been showing particularly strong growth. The Shincheonji Thaddaeus Tribe conducts regular education on the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and all members in their 20s to 80s complete the same education course. It is not simply education using the same materials and methods, but it provides customised education according to each level to increase the understanding of the members.
The Thaddaeus tribe are helping believers to correctly understand the Bible and apply it to their daily lives through various educational systems, including a thematic Bible Q&A based on the 66 books of the Bible, ‘basic etiquette education’ for the correct religious attitude, ‘character education’ for mature believers, and ‘volunteer activities’ for practical faith.
Moreover, in order to improve the quality of Bible education, they conduct lecture evaluations three times a week and group education once a week for lecturers and evangelists, and they also provide mind, character, and etiquette education to cultivate saints who can be role models for the congregation.
The satisfaction level of the believers with the educational programme of the Thaddaeus tribe is high. So-hee Kim, who came to Shincheonji from an established church, testified, “Through the education of the Word, I became actively involved in community service activities and began to live a life where my faith extended beyond the personal realm and had a positive influence on my neighbours.”
Meanwhile, the Thaddaeus tribe is responsible for the evangelism and growth of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region, which is home to Cheongdo, the hometown of the promised pastor of Shincheonji Church of Jesus. The Thaddaeus tribe has five domestic churches and several overseas churches in India, Sri Lanka and US.
