Shincheonji Volunteer Group Icheon Branch aspires for peace through Taegeukgi handprinting
On the 16th August, the Icheon branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group held a pre-event to the '8th Love Your Country, Share Peace' event at the Silleuksa outdoor performance hall in Yeoju city, Gyeonggi province. The event was attended by the citizens of the cities of Icheon and Yeoju to commemorate the souls of war veterans who died for the peace of Republic of Korea and to promote a world of peace without conflict.
On that day, ahead of the 'Love Your Country, Share Peace' event to be held at the end of August, citizens made a large handprint Taegeukgi (flag of South Korea) measuring 9m wide and 6m long. About 60 people, including people from all walks of life, Korean War veterans and citizens, participated.
A variety of activities, including a 6.25 Korean War photo exhibition, peace photo exhibition, booths commemorating patriotic martyrs, photo zones to remember the fallen spirits, and a time to write messages of peace to veterans were prepared.
A citizen who experienced the exhibition booths said, “Young people these days don’t know what the Korean War is, so today was meaningful in providing an opportunity to look back on the history of the Republic of Korea and learn about the veterans of war who sacrificed their lives for the country. I wish many young people could know about this.”
Looking at the war photo exhibition, Chang-bong Park, head of the Icheon City branch of the Korean War Veterans Association, explained those devastating times and said, “We must leave a legacy of peace so that future generations will not experience the trauma of war. Thank you so much for preparing this event.”
Seung-sik Kim, head of the Icheon Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group, said, “I think that our ancestors and the future generations should look back on the horrors of war, stained with blood and tears, and take deep pride in and love the Republic of Korea, which the heroes of the country sacrificed their lives to protect, and protect peace with our own hands.” “We ask for your interest and participation in future events,” he said.
