In June, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Yeonsu Branch conducted storm drain maintenance and environmental cleanup in Okryeon-dong, Yeonsu District, Incheon, ahead of the rainy season.
Fifteen volunteers focused on alleyways prone to water accumulation, clearing storm drains of fallen leaves, cigarette butts, soil and household waste while checking drainage conditions. They also collected litter from nearby alleys and drainage ditches to help prevent blockages, backflow and flooding.
A local resident said, “I usually just pass by minding my own business, but seeing them open and clean the drains made me realise how much work goes into maintaining them. I hope these efforts continue to improve the alley environment.”
Moon Yong-wook, Vice Branch Manager of the Yeonsu Branch, said, “We are conducting continuous maintenance activities in areas where water repeatedly accumulates.” He added, “We will continue to work steadily to contribute to local environmental management.”
