[Cheonji Ilbo Gumi = Reporter Ha-hyun Kang] “Donating blood is something money can't solve, and it is the most valuable volunteer work that can save one precious life with just 30 minutes of investment”
On the 27th, a member of 'We Are One', Gumi Branch (We Are One (Gumi)) Young-jae Woo, a 30-year-old male of Bonggok-dong, Gumi city, participated in a blood donation campaign held in front of Gumi Blood Center and expressed his feelings after donating blood.
Shincheonji Youth Volunteer Group 'We Are One' was launched on July 30 and is the largest youth group of its kind in South Korea with a membership of 90,000, and is conducting its 'Live ON Youth ON' blood donation campaign with a collective target of 70,000 blood donations by members across all branches in Korea.
This blood donation campaign is being carried out to solve the national blood supply crisis caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and, at the same time, to spread a culture of preserving, protecting, and respecting life.
To this end, We Are One (Gumi) has also been taking part in solving the national blood supply crisis since August 27.
According to statistical data published by the Blood Management Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross, the average blood reserves from 2020 to last year, when COVID-19 broke out, was held at 4.2 days, which is less than the necessary amount of 5 days.
To solve this blood supply crisis, Shincheonji Youth Volunteer Group, We Are One, announced the world's largest blood donation campaign with the 'target of 70,000 blood donations in three months', held at blood centres located in 17 administrative divisions throughout Korea.
Accordingly, the Gumi branch raised the participation rate of its members from a goal of 712 blood donations at Gumi Blood Centre, and set the target to 1028 blood donations in anticipation of their members being unable to donate blood.
As of the 28th, the number of participants at Gumi Blood Centre House was 474, of which 340 gave blood.
Junsu Kim (28 years old, Wonpyeong-dong, Gumi City, North Gyeongsang province), a member of We Are One (Gumi), who donated blood, said, “When I was younger, I had a health scare due to a lack of blood,” and continued, “Amidst a national crisis, I want to generously support an event like this and benefit others.”
In addition, the members of We Are One (Gumi) who participated in the blood donation campaign shared their desire to continue donating. It is a precious act that can save the lives of many people.
We Are One (Gumi) Director Won-ho Lee said, “We plan to continue our service and spread the light of Jesus' teachings to the local community.”
Blood donation rights, cards and vouchers gifted through the We Are One 'Live ON Youth ON' nationwide blood donation campaign will be used where necessary within each community.
