The Christian Council of Korea (CCK) 'not representative of Christianity in Korea'

by - 17:49

Following recent commotion caused by the Christian Council of Korea (CCK) - whose chairman, Reverend Jeon Kwang-hoon, has been calling for impeachment of President Jae-In Moon - the Protestant church has refuted its claims that it is representative of the Protestant Christian population in the Republic of Korea. According to an official report published by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism entitled ‘Religious status of Korea in 2018', believers of the CCK number 349,000 (3%) out of 11,217,500 Korean Christian Protestants.

The report has also published the following figures: -
- out of 98,305 Protestant pastors and evangelists, 2850 (3%) belong to the CCK
- out of 83,883 churches, 17,855 (21%) belong to the CCK
- out of 374 Protestant orders, 67 (18%) belong to the CCK

Moreover, the CCK continues to implement its murderous ‘coercive conversion’ programme, which has claimed the lives of two women in the last ten years and has forcibly confined hundreds of believers in remote locations throughout Korea, subjecting them to emotional and psychological abuse until they sign their consent to receiving Presbyterian doctrine. This is the disturbing reality of the CCK today.

The Assemblies of God of Korea church, a major protestant denomination, has since withheld its support from the CCK, and postponed all its duties including pastoral ones. The Evangelical Baptist Church of Korea has virtually ceased all operations. What these figures prove is that the CCK - which had a membership of 12 million at its peak - has lost its authoirty and representation.
