To mitigate heat-related illnesses amid the stifling summer heat in Korea, the Uijeongbu branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group conducted various activities for citizens and farmers.

On the 26th July, with temperatures exceeding 38 degrees Celsius, volunteers prepared ice water, fans, and ice packs, which they distributed to approximately 420 people, including senior citizens living alone, market vendors, and other citizens.

At Jeil Market, a heat wave prevention campaign was also carried out, with ice water and fans distributed to street vendors.

Volunteers also visited homes of seniors living alone, organising old wires, replacing lightbulbs, and refinishing bathroom and sink tiles to improve their living environments.

Ms. Mal-ja Kim (80, female), who lives in Howon neighbourhood, Uijeongbu City, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I always worried about fixing broken things while living alone, but I feel much more relieved after having the old wires organised and even the lights replaced.”

Uijeongbu branch volunteers said, “We felt a sense of accomplishment in helping the elderly living alone in the scorching heat to spend the summer safely,” and “We were also happy that a little coolness was delivered to street vendors who make a living.”
