I had no idea farming was this difficult. I've been reminded that it's thanks to the farmers' dedication that we can put food on the table. I hope today's volunteer work will be of some help.

On the 1st September, members of the Daejeon branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group visited a farm in the neighbourhood of Nangwol, Dong district, Daejeon City, Republic of Korea. One volunteer, who toiled and harvested the peppers, said the above.

Amid a labour shortage during the peak harvest seasonaround 20 volunteers that day rolled up their sleeves and diligently harvested 300 kg of peppers from a roughly 1000 square metre field. In the face of a persistent heatwave in summer 2025 and a general decline in rural volunteer activities, farmers were concerned with crop management. And if the harvest season is missed, peppers can be among the most badly affected crops, with a significant impact on the marketability of the crop.

A farmer who participated in the event said, “I was worried because it's hard to find workers these days, so the volunteers' support was of great help.”

Meanwhile, Shincheonji Volunteer Group serves communities nationwide through various community initiatives including blood drives, disaster response, education programmes, and environmental clean-ups.
