Shincheonji Church of Jesus continues to expand its community cooperation in Malawi through steady, hands-on volunteer work. On 26th March 2026, members of the Malawi branch of Shincheonji Church of Jesus volunteered to clean the streets of Blantyre Town as part of the '13th Light and Salt Day Environmental Cleanup Volunteer Activity' in Blantyre District, southern Malawi.

The Shincheonji Malawi Region has been holding monthly street clean-up campaigns since June 2025, held on the first weekend of every month, with the purpose of raising awareness that littering is a shameful act and providing residents with a clean environment.

This latest activity reflects Shincheonji Malawi’s long-term commitment to environmental care and aligns with the Malawian government’s national “Keep Malawi Clean” policy.

On that day, nearly 50 Shincheonji Malawi students and volunteers from the Zion Christian Mission Centre collected discarded household waste from Blantyre town centre, which has dense commercial activity and high waste output, amassing a staggering 1.2 litres of litter.

By moving into the city’s busiest zones, Shincheonji Malawi aimed to make a visible impact while actively supporting local government sanitation efforts.

For many participants, the cleanup is making visible changes within the community:

“At first, people would pass by indifferently, but as I continued volunteering, I feel a sense of reward when I see the streets free of litter,” said Teleza Kapalamula (22, female, Blantyre), adding, “These days, I could also see residents cleaning up their surroundings on their own.”

Looking to the future, a Shincheonji Malawi representative stated that the group intends to continue regular environmental clean-up activities, assess locations for public waste bin installation to be implemented in phases, and expand cooperation into peace education programmes for youth and teenagers.

Meanwhile, this campaign has drawn broad local attention. Members of the Blantyre mayoral delegation participated on site at the 8th cleanup and the country's local broadcaster TIMES TV covered the event, airing it on television and publishing related online news reports.
