“Because I'm blind, it was uncomfortable and difficult to walk or sit on a chair. I think we really need a guardian who can act as our hands, feet, and eyes.”

These are the impression of a citizen who attended the 'Pinky Promise' disability awareness campaign hosted by the Chuncheon branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group at Uiam Neighborhood Park in Chuncheon on 17th May.

The ‘Pinky Promise’ campaign was set up with the belief that despite being the smallest of the five fingers, the little finger is an essential part of the hand and body. As such, people of disability are citizens who play an equally important role in society. The campaign is designed to break down the walls of prejudice against people of disability, establish open channels of communication and put love for one's neighbour into practice.

Chuncheon City has made significant progress in providing opportunities for the independence and social participation of people of disability, having been selected for the 'City Without Barriers' policy.

On that day, the Chuncheon branch held a number of various programmes, including
experience booths which drew in a great response from citizens.

A citizen who participated in the campaign said, “I learned for the first time that there are 15 types of disabilities,” and “I've seen many people with disabilities, but this is the first time I've participated in an awareness campaign.”

Dong-woo Kim, deputy director of the Chuncheon branch, said, “We will provide correct information and positive experiences about disability to break down the wall between people of disability and people without,” and added, “We will continue to carry out campaigns to raise awareness for a beautiful world without division where we live together as one.”
