Every year, Shincheonji Church of Jesus commemorates the National Liberation Day of Korea (15th August) to raise civic awareness of the meaning and importance of Liberation Day, honouring the spirit of Korea's independence activists who aided the liberation of Korea from Japanese colonial rule in 1945.

Accordingly on the 14th and 15th August, the Pohang branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group held a Taegeukgi-raising campaign at Yeongildae Beach in Pohang City to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation.

Over the two days, more than 200 citizens participated in a range of activities held in five experience booths that allowed participants to reflect on the meaning of liberation. In particular, the 'Raising Time Attack' experience booth, where you have to raise the Taegeukgi within the time limit, gained notable attention, and those who successfully completed the challenge were given a Taegeukgi set, allowing them to continue raising the flag at home.

One citizen who participated in the event said, “I used to consider Liberation Day as just a 'day off', but today’s experience made me think again about the sacrifices of the independence activists.”

This year's 80th liberation, commemorated by the Shincheonji Volunteer Group in numerous locations nationwide, served as an opportunity to reflect on the value of sovereignty and freedom.

The independence Korea celebrates today came with tremendous hardship. May we never forget the strength of those who lived through it.
