Shincheonji Volunteer Group Hosts "Wise Summer Living" Programme in Seoul
On the morning of Saturday, August 16th 2025, despite ongoing heat wave warnings, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group's "Wise Summer Living" programme, held by members of the Uijeongbu Church, did not cease.
On that day, six volunteers from the Shincheonji Uijeongbu Church visited the home of an elderly person living alone in the Baekseokcheon residential area of Ganeung, Seoul.
Volunteers had a precious time sharing their warm hearts along with carrying out practical repair services, including broken fans, an old refrigerator and electrical fixtures in the bathroom. One resident said, “Just having someone come and help me like this makes me happy.”
Volunteers were provided with ladders, tool kits, and electrical insulation tape.
Households receiving the service were selected in advance through the village head.
One elderly gentleman had been enduring the heat by spreading newspaper on the floor and using a fan. After about 30 minutes of fan repair, the fan started spinning powerfully, and the gentleman held the volunteer's hand tightly, saying, “Thank you so much. Thanks to you, today feels like summer has become a little cooler.”
The core of this 'wise summer living' service is not simply about providing technology - it is an emotional bond. The volunteers did not leave even after completing the repairs. Instead, they sat on the floor with the elders and chatted away.
“This is the first time in my life that someone has come to me and talked to me like this, and fixed something that was broken,” said another resident.
Another also said, “Even though my body is at unease, my heart is warm, so life feels less lonely.”
These words were deeply engraved in the hearts of the volunteers.
Meanwhile, with love and peace at their foundation, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group carries out global social contribution projects in various fields including the environment, veterans' affairs, disabled sector, public interest and culture, transcending religion, race and national borders.
