Shincheonji Volunteer Group (SVG): Hangeul Day October 9th!

by - 14:55

Shincheonji Volunteer Group (SVG) is continuing to reach out to local communities throughout 67 cities in South Korea. On October 9th 2018, the Daejeon branch of Shincheonji Church of Jesus hosted an outdoor event in central Daejeon - a central-Korean city with an estimated 1.5million inhabitants and 50minutes from Seoul by train - entitled Hangeul: Who Can Speak It in the Most Elegant Way? This event was held in commemoration of the founding of the Korean alphabet over 570 years ago, which had also helped people of that time to read Chinese characters. Since 2013, October 9th has become a national holiday in South Korea.

The event was held with the specific purpose of informing people young and old about the importance and correct usage of Hangeul in an era when the Korean language is often colloquialised into shortened forms. Activities included spelling tests and consonant-only Tetris. Maintenance of the Korean language will become very important when, in the words of a congregation member of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Shincheonji people will help Christians realize the true meaning of the Bible given by God.”
