Volunteers from the Dongjak Branch are conducting a war memorial cleanup activity on 17th March at Nodeulnaru Park in Dongjak district, Seoul, by wiping down the 'Memorial Monument for Fallen Soldiers of the Battle of the Han River Defence Line.'

In present-day South Korea, where the treatment of Korean War veterans who dedicated their lives for the peace of the country is sometimes overlooked, one organisation is working hard to widely publicise and record their noble deeds through memorial ceremonies, campaigns, and events - the Shincheonji Volunteer Group.

On 17th March, the Dongjak Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group commemorated the sacrifices of Korean War veterans by maintaining the 'Memorial Monument for Fallen Soldiers of the Battle of the Han River Defence Line.'

On that day, 20 youth volunteers from the Dongjak branch tidied up the area around the monument and cleaned the headstones. A moment of silence was also observed at the site for the fallen heroes and war heroes.

The memorial monument located in Nodeulnaru Park, Seoul, is a monument erected to commemorate the soldiers who lost their lives while defending the capital during the Korean War.

This meaningful gathering was designed to help young people reflect on the value of patriotism and sacrifice, while expressing gratitude and respect towards patriots who dedicated their lives to the country.

The impact of the experience was deeply impressed upon the hearts of the veteran's organisation, with Il-nam Yoo (71, male), a member of the Association of Disabled War Veterans, saying:

“It is meaningful that such activities go on in a climate where memories of the war are gradually fading. I hope the sacrifices of the war veterans will be remembered for a long time.”

Looking ahead, the Gwangju Branch is committed to increasing the level of respect shown to veterans who have devoted themselves to the country, and is working to fulfil the shared desire for a world free from war and strife.
