Shincheonji Volunteer Group Guri Namyangju Branch (Branch Manager Kang Chang-hoon, Guri Namyangju Branch) conducted the regular volunteer activity 'Natural Apurja' near Guri Station for the first time on the 21st to celebrate the new year.

“I just realized that so many discarded socks are being thrown away and polluting the environment. But it’s so pretty that they’re being used so well. It seems like a good way to reduce waste.”

This is the opinion of Kim Seong-ja (62, female, Sutaek-dong, Guri-si), who received a flowerpot made from discarded socks.

Shincheonji Volunteer Group Guri Namyangju Branch (Branch Manager Kang Chang-hoon, Guri Namyangju Branch) conducted its first regular volunteer activity, ‘Natural Apurja’, near Guri Station on the 21st to welcome the new year.

Earlier, the Guri Namyangju Branch was launched as an environmental volunteer group to achieve carbon neutrality at the Seoul-Gyeonggi Eastern Union 'Environmental Specialist Guardians' inauguration ceremony held on the 18th. They pledged to actively work to improve the environment of the healthy Earth and local communities.

Specific activities of environmental experts include nature protection and biodiversity preservation, waste collection and recycling, carbon neutrality and climate change response, and environmental education for citizens.

In line with this, about 10 people from the Guri Namyang branch launched a carbon neutrality and resource circulation 4R campaign.

Carbon neutrality is the process of reducing carbon emissions and increasing absorption to make net emissions zero in order to prevent the increase in greenhouse gas concentration in the atmosphere, which is the cause of global warming. In addition, the 4R movement is an acronym for ▲Reduce ▲Reuse ▲Recycle ▲Refuse (not buying unnecessary items), and is an environmental movement that suggests specific environmental protection methods that we can practice in our daily lives.

On this day, volunteers also taught citizens the correct way to separate their waste through an experience of separating waste. They also distributed flower pots made from discarded socks and promoted the 4R movement that can be practiced in everyday life.

Volunteer Lee Young-ran said, “It seems that our lifestyles, which are accustomed to fast and convenient things, have made the Earth sick,” and added, “I hope that citizens will separate their waste well and pay attention to recycling to reduce waste.”

Lee Eun-ju, deputy director of the Guri Namyang branch, said, “We will continue to work hard so that this type of campaign can expand further in our community,” and added, “I hope that our children can also enjoy a clean environment as they grow up.”

In addition, the Guri Namyangju Branch stated, “As an ‘environmental expert guardian,’ we will do our best to improve the environment of the healthy Earth and the local community.”
