Shincheonji Volunteer Group (SVG): Medical Services

by - 17:48

An increasing number of foreigners residing in Korea are contributors or recipients of the services of Shincheonji Volunteer Group (SVG) through medical aid. Some 30 medics from Gumi - a leading industrial city located on the Nakdong River between Daegu and Gimcheon in central-eastern Korea - served 30 foreign Gumi residents from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Cambodia, Nepal, Thailand and China. To the amusement of others, foreign guests adorned themselves with the traditional Korean Hanbok costume as they enjoyed performances by the ‘Little Cheerleaders’ and Nongak music band.

The City Mayor of Gumi acknowledged the past contribution of foreign residents, saying “Foreign workers working in our country can not be ignored because they know the history and pain of living in a foreign country in a poor environment." The head of Shincheonji Multicultural Centre (SMC), which currently has a membership of 130 students from 13 overseas countries, acknowledged their efforts and said: We pursue peace. The multicultural center not only helps Korean foreigners, but also helps them learn about Korean culture."
