[Cheonji Ilbo = Reporter Bo-young Hong] Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Chairman Man-hee Lee) delivered 31,528 blood donation cards, and blood donation vouchers worth 112,800,000 KRW to the Korean Red Cross on the 9th May.
The Korean Red Cross Blood Management Headquarters and Shincheonji Church of Jesus held a blood donation ceremony and blood donation ticket giving ceremony at Nambu Blood Center in Seoul on the 9th May, the Korean Red Cross announced on the 10th.
The event was attended by officials from both sides, including Nam-seon Cho, head of the blood management headquarters of the Korean Red Cross, and Jin-sook Yang, head of the Transportation and Logistics department of the Shincheonji General Assembly.
The donation formed part of the 'Live ON Life-Sharing Blood Donation Campaign', which was voluntarily conducted nationwide throughout Korea for 14 days, from April 18 to the 1st of this month, by Shincheonji Church of Jesus, at a time of a serious national blood supply shortage resulting from the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic and the spread of the Omicron variant. The blood donation vouchers collected by 18,628 donors were added to the blood donation vouchers collected while the members participated in the blood donation campaign, and were delivered together with blood donation cards.
According to the Blood Management Headquarters, the donation campaign by 18,628 blood donors of Shincheonji Church of Jesus is the largest such donation by any single organisation within a short period of time. It has been of great help in alleviating the blood crisis. The Blood Management Headquarters has accepted blood donation vouchers in order to alleviate the financial burden of patients receiving blood transfusions for surgery or treatment, and will also be used for affiliated community projects.
Nam-seon Cho, head of the Blood Management Headquarters, said, “When the impact of the Covid-19 Omicron variant was at its peak, Shincheonji Church of Jesus gave blood, so it was like rain in a season of drought in terms of blood supply. Thank you so much.” She continued, “I was surprised that they continued to participate even after reaching the 6,000 target within the first 3 days. I think members have worked hard because they understand the importance of saving lives through blood giving.”
An official from Shincheonji Church of Jesus said, “Although medicine has advanced considerably, blood still cannot be artificially produced, and only humans can donate blood. I would like to express my gratitude to church members who took one step forward when they heard of the national blood supply shortage. We will continue to be the light and salt of the earth and carry out our faith to glorify God. We hope that this blood will be delivered and used in some capacity.”
This has taken place in addition to the fact that, upon the request of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, a total of 6,000 Shincheonji Church members had donated three rounds of blood plasma for the development of a treatment for Covid-19 at the time of the initial outbreak in 2020, when there was no vaccine or treatment. Even at that time, despite having to endure the after-effects of Covid-19 and psychological strains, all members of the church took steps to overcome the national crisis, garnering attention not only domestically, but also abroad.
