Shincheonji Volunteers in Asan Rush to Aid in Flood Recovery Amid Korea’s Extreme Weather
Love and Service meet during unprecedented rains and heat
South Korea has just endured historic rains—with flooding and landslides that displaced hundreds and caused widespread infrastructure damage. As soon as the skies cleared, temperatures soared into the mid‑30s °C, making both cleanup and recovery especially difficult.
In this challenging time, the Shincheonji Volunteer Team in Asan stepped forward in Yeongin-myeon, bringing hope and practical help to those struggling to rebuild.
Rapid Response to Devastating Flood Damage
From 20th - 22nd July 2026, heavy rains hit western Korea, affecting particularly the township of Yeongin-myeon, Asan City, South Chungcheong Province. 17 homes were flooded, damaging the interiors and waste amassed.
Shincheonji volunteers—from the Asan division—mobilised quickly. They showed up with shovels, brooms, and mops, working silently and consistently to help clean and restore damaged homes.
Hands That Serve
Despite the sweltering weather, the team worked throughout on the 22nd, moving muddy household items and clearing away home appliances, daily necessities, and various waste rendered unusable by the flooding. A total of 2250 litres of waste were collected from the site that day. They also carried out work around the surrounding environment, enabling residents to resume their daily lives in a safer environment.
Resident testimonies reflected deep emotion:
“Our home collapsed and our lives crumbled—but these volunteers brought back hope.”
Another shared:
“I felt despair—but they came and helped without words. That touched me deeply.”
Volunteers spoke sincerely:
“Even small help felt meaningful. We simply wanted to support our neighbours.”
Consistent Compassion in Every Season
This effort is part of Shincheonji’s long-term mission of service. Even amid widespread misperceptions, the church continues to support society through:
- Disaster relief after fires, floods, and storms
- Environmental cleanups
- Blood donation drives
- Local, hands‑on community support
These acts show faith in action, bringing a universal message of love to every season.
