Shincheonji Volunteer Group Sri Lanka branch is cleaning up the area around Wellawatte Beach

The Sri Lankan branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group cleaned up Wellawatte Beach in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on June 28th. This volunteer activity was designed to not only enhance the aesthetics of the beach but also protect marine biodiversity and ecosystem health.

68 volunteers participated in the beach cleanup and amassed 50 75-litre bags of household waste. They later donated plastic waste containers to help keep the beach clean, for which Sri Lankan Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) officials expressed their gratitude.

During the activity, volunteer participants remarked on the high amount of glass and plastic waste strewn across the beach.

Branch Manager Chanuk said, I'd like to thank the police officers and the Colombo City Council's waste collection team for their cooperation. We will continue to volunteer wherever needed in the community.

Meanwhile, Shincheonji Volunteers is a volunteer group of Shincheonji Church of Jesus which serves communities worldwide through various initiatives including blood drives, disaster response, education programmes, and environmental clean-ups.
