On 22nd January 2020, Ilyo Seoul (Sunday Seoul) published an article entitled ‘Lunchbox Donation: 'Pink Cloth with Love' Initiative'. This is a translation of that article

New Year's Day is, for many, a day full of joy and food, yet there are still many communities which lack such a privilege.

'Pink Cloth with Love' is one of Shincheonji Volunteer Group's initiatives that delivers lunchboxes with warmth and peace of mind to the less privileged in local communities to eliminate neighbours' worries about meals.

On 21st January, a member of Shincheonji Volunteer Group Gwangju, Mrs. Soon-ok Kim, visited elderly peoples' home with her granddaughters.

That day, Mrs. Kim's granddaughters made a traditional New Year's bow to the elderly residents. They were grateful to receive side dishes prepared by volunteers.

Moreover, Mr. Jeong (75), who has been a beneficiary of Shincheonji Volunteer Group since February last year, opened the door of his 12th floor apartment to welcome the 'Pink Cloth' volunteers.

As soon as they entered the house, the two granddaughters, with bright faces, said, "Granddad, stay healthy this New Year."

He couldn't hide his joy to the extent that he took out his wallet and gave ten thousand won to each granddaughter. The elderly man humorously said, "I think I visited an ATM yesterday for this!"

The side dishes included three types of herbs, all kinds of seaweed and a healthy porridge. Though not a special side dish, it provided Mr. Jeong with a strong and delicate taste. Soon after, he shared a meal of boiled eggs with drinks with volunteers.

Shincheonji Volunteer Group, Gwangju, visited the underprivileged in the region last year through delivering the 'Pink Cloth with Love' initiative. They visited eight families - twice a month - which is a total of more than 200 visits last year.

Shincheonji Volunteer Group's consistent activities were introduced at the community center in Gwangju. This year, four more households benefitted from Shincheonji Volunteer Group's 'Pink Cloth with Love' initiative. Shincheonji Volunteer Group's pure heart is receiving recognition from the local community.

Shincheonji Volunteer Group, Gwangju, said, “Many people have the misconception that Shincheonji Volunteer Group members are missionaries. Today, Shincheonji Volunteer Group is made up of volunteers with pure hearts. We will make more effort to become a voluntary organisation that acts as the salt and light of the community."

  1. What a thoughtful deed! People who live alone or in poverty would give up feeding themselves properly like the very first thing among all they should do. Supporting them will help them a lot. Great job!
