The heinous practice of forced conversion has finally made national headlines outside The Republic of Korea. The Week - India's largest circulated English news magazine that distributes 200,000+ copies weekly - has published an article titled 'In bad faith: Korean woman dies during forces conversion', following the murder of 27-year-old Ms. Ji-In Gu.

The article clearly outlines the origin and growth of forced, or coercive, conversion in South Korea today and the events that led to Ms. Gu's death by 'pastors'. In spite of the blatant violation of Ms. Gu's human rights and her silent hand-written plea to the Korean president to bring these 'pastors' to justice after her initial kidnapping, the Korean government has not issued a single statement about her death. The reason? Politicians consider these pastors as "vote banks" and so maintain a hold on their political authority.

In order to ban this practice and to bring justice to Ms. Gu's murder and the 1200 people who have been kidnapped, confined or beaten for their religious beliefs in South Korea to date, we must continue to raise our voices.

The Republic of Korea is a democratic country which, enshrined within article 20 of its constitution is the ‘Freedom of Religion’. Yet two people have been murdered and over 1200 made victims of coercive conversion programmes established by so-called ‘Christian pastors’. This practice begins by manipulating parents into abducting and confining their son or daughter into a small room and, upon refusing to renounce their religious beliefs and ascribe to these pastors’ beliefs, subjecting them to physical and emotional abuse. This is the reality of the Christian world in Korea today.

Following the murder of Ms. Ji-In Gu, who was suffocated to death in December 2017, rallies have been held worldwide urging for a ban on these coercive conversion programmes and for these pastors to be brought to justice. On 28th of January 2018, 120,000 citizens attended rallies in Seoul and other major Korean cities. Although this is a clear violation of human rights on every level, the Korean government continues to remain silent about this issue.

Shincheonji Church has been created on earth according to the promises of the Bible. The English translation is 'New Heaven New Earth'. This 'Heaven' refers to a new tabernacle, temple or church where God dwells, and 'earth' refers to its people, or congregation members. It is ‘new’ because the ‘old’ has become corrupt and it ushers in a new world where God and life will reign.
"When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled." (Luke 24:44)

2000 years ago, Jesus came to fulfil every single prophecy written about him in the Old Testament. This is why he said “It is finished” as he lay on the Cross (Jn 19:30). He was the Promised Pastor sent by God who fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament.
Similarly, after Jesus Christ’s ascension to heaven, he made promises recorded by Apostle John in the Book of Revelation in the New Testament. Just as God - who is a spirit - worked through Jesus Christ 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ - who is in spirit today - works through a Promised Pastor at this time of fulfilment. He is the promised messenger sent by Jesus Christ who speaks on Jesus’ behalf (Revelation 22:16), testifying to all the events of Revelation that he has seen and heard (Revelation 22:8). When all these New Testament prophecies are fulfilled, the words “it is done” will be fulfilled (Revelation 21:6) and a new era will be ushered in where God and life will reign supreme. There will be no more mourning, death, crying or pain (Revelation 21:4). Only one who meets this promised messenger can understand the true fulfilment of Revelation.

Shincheonji Church is growing yearly according to the promises contained within the Book of Revelation in the Christian Bible. It is the only church in the world where a plain testimony of all the events of the Book of Revelation can be made known, through a messenger appointed by God and Jesus (see Revelation 22:8, 16). This is why it is also called the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony where all nations will come and worship the true God (see Revelation 15:4-5) and learn God’s will contained throughout the 66 books of the Bible from the time of Genesis to today. Through Shincheonji Volunteer - the largest Korean-based non-governmental organisation - over 100,000 volunteers have participated in various acts of voluntary service including disaster relief, blood donations, support for veteran groups, regional development and public service campaigns in 67 of the 84 cities in Korea.

Graduation Services take place after students complete a six-month intensive study programme at the Zion Christian Mission Centre. Upon completion, students have a clear understanding of God’s will and mastery over the contents of the Bible. They also belong to one of the twelve tribes (see Revelation 7). In 2018 alone, we have had three significant Graduation services: European Graduation in Germany (487 graduates), Los Angeles Graduation (545 graduates – John tribe) and Gwangju Graduation (3111 graduates – Peter tribe). Today’s Service (the 12th of August 2018) in the Republic of South Africa will congratulate 694 graduates including two Hindus and one Muslim. As evidenced by the 1032 graduates in Los Angeles and Germany, Shincheonji Church is growing throughout the world and graduation services will be held monthly until the end of the year.

The growth of Shincheonji Church is in stark contrast to the Christian Council of Korea (CCK). Once Korean Christianity’s most powerful and largest organisation with a membership of 12 million, the CCK has now dwindled to 1.8 million because of their outright abuse of power and authority through their murderous coercive conversion programmes. Shincheonji Church, on the other hand, continues to grow beautifully, as promised in Revelation 22:2 (the tree of life). In 2017, a total of 23,502 people (19,656 in Korea) joined the church and, today, there are more than 200,000 congregation members across 69 churches in Korea and 33 churches overseas.

I have written several articles to raise awareness of the acts of forced conversion being carried out today by the Christian Council of Korea (CCK) in the name of religion in the Republic of Korea. The CCK has subjected more than 1200 people to its coercive conversion programme which kidnaps, confines and physically and emotionally abuses victims until they renounce their religious beliefs and convert to their Presbyterian doctrine. Two Korean women have subsequently died. This is a clear violation of one’s human rights on every level.

I wish to direct readers to an article below which summarises the history, growth and decline of the CCK and promotes the work of peace carried out by Shincheonji Church. The teachings of the CCK are founded on the Presbyterian doctrine of John Calvin who murdered men, women and children who opposed his beliefs. During the Japanese occupation of Korea (1910-1945), Koreans were forced to abide by this Presbyterian doctrine and bow down and worship foreign gods. Today in 2018, the CCK buys and sells positions of leadership, has established coercive conversion programmes and distorts the true meaning of the word of God by feeding lies to its congregation members. The reason they do this is because of the spirit that is at work through them.

Moreover, CCK slanders Shincheonji Church, where the true meaning of the Bible is taught plainly and where the work of peace is being fulfilled on earth according to the prophecies God made through Isaiah (Isaiah 52:7) and Jesus Christ (Luke 19:38-42) in the Bible. The presidents of Albania, Kosovo and Palestine - to name just a few - are supporting this work of peace, as are many former presidents, chief justices and political, religious and legal figures. Why does CCK, then, disrupt this work of peace and label Shincheonji Church a ‘cult’? Who is true orthodoxy and true cult? Before labelling Shincheonji Church a 'cult', CCK should come before the Bible with reverence and listen to the plain teachings taught in Shincheonji Church. Moreover, the CCK should let go of their desire for power and authority and stop preventing people from coming to know the truth which is taught freely without cost in Shincheonji Church (Revelation 21:6, 22:17).

I have written a few articles about the murder of 25-year-old Ms. Ji-In Gu who was suffocated to death by her parents in December 2017. They had - on two separate occasions - abducted, confined and subjected her to physical and emotional abuse because she refused to renounce her religious beliefs and ascribe to the Presbyterian doctrine of the Christian Council of Korea (CCK). And yes, this happened in south - not north - Korea.

The reason these parents committed such evil acts is because they had been deceived by pastors of the CCK into believing that their daughter was involved in a cult through the ‘coercive conversion programme’ established by the CCK (see link below).

Many months have passed since the tragic passing of Ms. Gu. One of her closest friends has depicted her final memories through a beautifully drawn illustration from the time shortly before she was (for the second time) abducted, up until discovery of the news of her death (see link below). This illustration expresses her grief at her best friend’s loss and the heartache over the misunderstandings people have about the events surrounding her death.
CCK pastors, who make money from coercive conversion programmes and buy and sell positions of leadership, must be held to account for their actions and brought to justice.

The Korean government has remained silent on an issue which is a violation of not only one’s religious freedom, but one’s human rights. And all in a country like South Korea which has 1200 victims of coercive conversion.

The Republic of Korea has been covering up atrocities that violate human rights on nearly every level. On 7th of October 2007, Mrs. Kim was hammered to death by her ex-husband in Ulsan for refusing to renounce her religious beliefs and convert to the Presbyterian doctrine of the Christian Council of Korea (CCK). In July 2016, 25-year-old Ms. Ji-In Gu was dragged to a Catholic monastery by her parents after being informed by these so-called ‘Christian pastors’ that her daughter had fallen into a ‘cult’. She forcibly received coercive conversion education during her 44 days of captivity before escaping. Shortly after, she wrote and submitted a letter (dated 4th June 2017) to the then-President of Korea pleading with him to enact a law that would punish these coercive conversion education pastors and criminalise their practice. She signed off her letter “I hope there won't be any more victims like me”. A few months later, Ms. Gu was dead. She likely suffered cardiac arrest by asphyxiation after she had been taken captive a second time. To date, the Korean government has neither released an official statement on either one of these two cases nor on the 1200 victims of the coercive conversion education programme. Is it not jarring that such things go unnoticed within Korea’s religious world?

Coercive conversion education programmes have been established by pastors of the CCK with the intention of forcibly converting one’s beliefs to that of the Presbyterian doctrine. They escape the punishment of the legal system by inciting parents to do the dirty work. These pastors instigate parents to plaster their children’s mouths, handcuff their hands and feet, and confine them in a room where they receive regular physical and emotional abuse until they renounce their religious beliefs and sign up to receiving coercive conversion education. This is the dark reality of today’s Christian world in Korea.

The doctrines of the CCK are rooted in a dark history. They are based on the teachings of John Calvin (1509-1564), founder of the Presbyterian Church, who asserted his theory of predestination and slaughtered men, women and children who opposed his beliefs. At the time of the Japanese colonialisation of Korea (1910-1945), the Presbyterian Church served as informants of the occupiers and incited pastors of all denominations to bow down and worship their Japanese gods. Those who refused to do so were imprisoned, and upon their release re-grouped to form ‘Go-Shin-Pa’. This is itself was a violation of God’s first commandment. Later in 1989, a group of conservative Korean Christians banded and formed the CCK, in support of a Constitutional amendment that would allow the then-Korean-president to run for a third consecutive term. Today in 2018, the title of a CCK pastor or Chairman are bought or sold with money, or filled by individuals who have never even attended a seminary.

Moreover, CCK has distorted the true meaning of the holy Christian scripture by feeding lies to its congregation members and has prevented the erection of the monument of the Declaration of the Reunification of North and South Korea and the creation of a large-sized handprint Korean flag, as well as numerous volunteer works that Shincheonji Church has carried out. CCK has declared outright war with Shincheonji Church, even though Shincheonji Church has been carrying out a global peace movement since its proclamation of the Declaration of World Peace on 25th May 2013, leading to fruitful peacework such as ending a 40-year-long religious dispute between Catholics and Muslims in Mindanao, Philippines, where weapons were turned into everyday tools and schools reborn as peace schools. Even presidents of countries including Albania, Palestine and Kosovo are supporting the peacework of Shincheonji Church, yet CCK disrupts this work and labels Shincheonji Church a ‘cult’. Who is the true orthodox and true cult?

It would be wrong to assume that the actions of the CCK are just a religious or family issue. Article 20 of the Constitution of South Korea, entitled ‘Freedom of Religion’, states that “all citizens enjoy the freedom of religion”. Everyone has the right to believe in what they want. CCK is committing unlawful acts that violate human rights on a basic level, using the name of religion.

Today, the membership of the CCK, which was once 12 million, is fast dwindling and is split into different factions. In short, it is not a religious organisation, does not serve God, violates human rights, lies about the Bible and divides Korean society. It works against the cause of peace and unification, and must cease to exist. In the Bible, the work of peace is mentioned 66 times. God promised it in Isaiah 52:7 and Jesus proclaimed it in Luke 19:38-42. Upholding the will of God and Jesus, Shincheonji Church is doing this work of peace today. I hope that every reader can see the reality of what is happening in Christianity in Korea today and discern for themselves what is right and wrong, orthodoxy and cult.
