“It was difficult raising my child alone, so it was nice to finally be able to open up and talk about my feelings.”
On the 9th October, the Gunsan branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group prepared various healing programmes for about 20 war widows and bereaved families at the Veterans Hall in Gunsan, South Korea. One participant in the programme said the above.
On that day, one particular activity that resonated with participants was a colouring drawing activity, led by an art psychology counsellor, that enabled participants to express the emotions and feelings they have accumulated over decades. Expressing her gratitude to the programme, one bereaved family member said, “I have been struggling beyond words since my husband passed away last November, but now I feel much lighter because the counsellor magically read my mind while I was colouring the picture.”

The programme concluded with warm dialogue over a homemade lunch prepared by the volunteers.
Meanwhile, in present-day South Korea, where the contribution of Korean War veterans who dedicated their lives for the peace of the country is often overlooked, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group continues to widely publicise and record their noble deeds through memorial ceremonies, campaigns, and events.
