On the 22nd April, the Donghae Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group conducted the 'Green Nature' Forest Fire Prevention Campaign with the Donghae City Forest Fire Fighting Team in the city of Donghae, Gangwon Province.

The city of Donghae is no stranger to large-scale forest fires. Major forest fires since 2017 in Gangneung, Samcheok and Uljin have resulted in property damage of over one trillion KRW (£580,000). After a forest fire occurs, it takes over 100 years for soil to recover to its original level. The forest fire campaign held by the Donghae Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group, therefore, sought to raise awareness of the causes and effects of forest fire and the need for prevention.

Fire chief Kim said, “Forest fire campaigns must be widely publicised to raise awareness.”

Various activities were held with local citizens, including a plant-sharing event for forest recovery and hanging a tree with my pledge message to participate in forest fire prevention, and citizens expressed their gratitude to the firefighting team.

Chan-yong Park, head of the Donghae branch, said, “Today's forest fire prevention campaign, jointly held by the public and private sectors, was an opportunity to cherish the forests and leave them as a legacy to future generations.”

Meanwhile, the 'Green Nature' programme strives to pass on a beautiful environment as a legacy to posterity through wetland conservation activities, environmental clean-ups to protect major facilities and cultural assets, environmental recovery, environmental protection public interest campaigns, and the creation of flower paths in illegal waste dumping areas. This is a regular volunteer activity conducted by Shincheonji Volunteer Group throughout South Korea.
