“Who would know that I am having a hard time and how could people come to the house of another who is not even related to that person by blood? Nobody could do this.”
These are the words of a citizen who witnessed members of the Gangdong branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group (Shincheonji Gangdong branch) volunteer to improve the residential environment.
On the 28th of June, 14 volunteers from the Shincheonji Gangdong branch and five members from the Gangdong branch of the Association of Persons with Disabilities visited the home of a resident suffering from hoarding due to dementia. Despite temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius, members and volunteers sweated indoors and filled three 2.5-ton trucks and four 1-ton truck with litter.
A volunteer from the Association said, “I heard that many of the volunteers are university students. It’s inspiring to see how they divide their roles and work hard as if they are used to this.”
An official from the Gangdong branch said, “We will continue to be a volunteer group that looks after our neighbours in the region and extends a helping hand.”
Meanwhile, Shincheonji Volunteer Group has been consistently carrying out various volunteer activities every month, including the ‘Love Your Country, Share Peace’ campaign that has been held nationwide yearly since 2015 to commemorate the souls of war veterans who died for the sake of peace of Korea and to promote a world of peace without conflict; the ‘More the Better’ companion plant sharing activity to promote emotional wellbeing, and the ‘Beautiful Seniors’ programme that promotes a healthy and happy retirement for the elderly.
