1100 congregants of Shincheonji Church of Jesus who have recovered from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection will, this week, donate their blood plasma in Daegu, South Korea, in a continued effort to find a vaccine as a second domestic outbreak erupts throughout the country. This is the second collective blood plasma donation made by Shincheonji Church with the first made by its church members in Daegu from July 13th-17th 2020. Shincheonji Church intends to make a total of 4000 donations to help find a cure.
500 cured congregation members of Shincheonji Daegu Church Donate Blood Plasma
This second collective donation comes at a time when development of a vaccine for COVID-19 is even more important as a second wave emerges. This second collective blood plasma donation will take place from August 27th-September 4th 2020 (weekend excluded) at the Daegu Athletics Promotion Center and will average roughly 160 donations a day.
As seen in the video above, the initial collective plasma drive in July 2020 consisted of 409 Shincheonji Church members donating their blood with an additional 219 participating members giving blood separately. As of of August 26th 2020, a total of 628 members have successfully donated their blood plasma and, upon completion of this second batch, roughly 1700 members will have donated their blood plasma.
Chairman Man Hee Lee of Shincheonji Church encouraged active participation from recovered church members in a letter dated August 25th, writing, “Let us lead the effort in plasma donation so that the blood (plasma) of the congregation members who have been atoned for their sins by the blood of Jesus can be used for overcoming COVID-19 for the citizens and the country.”
Since the initial confirmed cases from February 2020 onwards, Shincheonji Church has maintained its sorrow at the hurt and worry caused by COVID-19 to Korean citizens and has sworn to work in close cooperation with the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) to overcome this difficult situation and find a possible cure for COVID-19.
