In present-day South Korea, where the contribution of Korean War veterans who dedicated their lives for the peace of the country is often overlooked, one organisation is working hard to widely publicise and record their noble deeds through memorial ceremonies, campaigns, and events - the Shincheonji Volunteer Group.
As an expression of gratitude to veterans of the Korean War and to reflect on the value of peace, the Namsan branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group held a "Sharing Rice of Love" event at the Veterans Hall in Yongsan District, Seoul on the 11th July.
On that day, the Namsan branch delivered 40 4kg bags of rice, totalling 160kg, to the Yongsan branch of the Korean War Veterans' Association. The donation was made in the hope that it would provide practical assistance to veterans experiencing difficulty due to the hot summer weather and persistent inflation.
The event concluded with a photo shoot for veterans that was held on site and warm applause.
May the sacrifices of the generation that experienced war never be forgotten and the value of peace be passed on to the next generation.
Meanwhile, since 2015, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group has held the 'Love Your Country, Share Peace' campaign nationwide in the month of June (Patriot & Veterans Month) in order to raise civic awareness of the noble sacrifice of war veterans who died for the peace of Korea and to promote a world of peace without conflict.
Such a meaningful event! Thank you to the veterans for their sacrifice and to the volunteers for remembering them with love and respect.
