Shincheonji Volunteer Group's Mokpo branch conducts ‘Green Mokpo’ environmental clean-up campaign

On the 27th April, the Mokpo branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group carried out its 'Green Mokpo' campaign, which is one of several initiatives that falls under the 'Green Nature' environmental programme conducted by the Mokpo Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group, at the coastal road near Mokpo National Maritime University in South Jeolla Province, Republic of Korea.

Mokpo is a beautiful port city known for its vast ocean view.

About 70 volunteers wearing yellow vests from the Mokpo branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group cleaned up the marine waste across 1.1km of the coastal area near Mokpo National Maritime University, which had amassed waste and debris brought in by the ocean currents and wind. The volunteer group gathered 24 gunny sacks of litter.

A citizen, in his 70s, who saw volunteers collecting litter enroute to work said, “This area is often frowned upon because of the amount of litter washing up on the shore, but these young people have come here and done good work.”

An official from the Mokpo branch said, “Environmental protection is the most effective way to protect human health. Anyone can become an environmental guardian if they exercise care and put in a little effort.”

Meanwhile, the 'Green Nature' programme strives to pass on a beautiful environment as a legacy to posterity through wetland conservation activities, environmental clean-ups to protect major facilities and cultural assets, environmental recovery, environmental protection public interest campaigns, and the creation of flower paths in illegal waste dumping areas. This is a regular volunteer activity conducted by Shincheonji Volunteer Group throughout South Korea.
