On the 16th April, the Gangdong Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group conducted an environmental clean-up activity in the area of Dunchon 2-dong, Gangdong District, Seoul.
This volunteer activity is part of the 'Green Nature’ programme, which strives to pass on a beautiful environment as a legacy to posterity through wetland conservation activities, environmental clean-ups to protect major facilities and cultural assets, environmental recovery, environmental protection public interest campaigns, and the creation of flower paths in illegal waste dumping areas.
On that day, 22 members of the Gangdong branch collected 250 litres of waste over a distance of about 1.5km, and swept up fallen flower petals to brighten the streets.
Dunchon has a shortage of manpower to clean the alleys and fields, which are heavily littered and the subject of complaints by local residents.
An official from the Gangdong branch said, “By collecting cigarette butts and litter that were hidden and piled up all over the streets, our hope is that this activity will really brighten up the environment.”
