On the 30th March, the Mokpo branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group carried out its 'Green Mokpo' campaign, which is one of several initiatives that falls under the 'Green Nature' environmental programme conducted by the Mokpo Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group, at the Peace Square, the main tourist attraction in Mokpo City, South Jeolla Province, Republic of Korea.
Mokpo is a beautiful port city known for its vast ocean view.
About 100 volunteers from the Mokpo branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group took part in the 'Green Mokpo' initiative, encircling the 4.5 mile Yeongsangang River estuary bank to collect waste in order to create a cleaner Mokpo.
A tourist who visited Mokpo from Gwangju with his family over the weekend spoke of “volunteers in yellow tops picking up litter by looking into every crevice.”
A volunteer in his 60s who participates in the volunteer group's monthly activities said, “I often exercise at the Peace Square, and today I was able to kill two birds with one stone by picking up litter at the estuary bank and exercising.”
Meanwhile, the 'Green Nature' programme strives to pass on a beautiful environment as a legacy to posterity through wetland conservation activities, environmental clean-ups to protect major facilities and cultural assets, environmental recovery, environmental protection public interest campaigns, and the creation of flower paths in illegal waste dumping areas. This is a regular volunteer activity conducted by Shincheonji Volunteer Group throughout South Korea.
