The 'More the Better' plant-sharing volunteer service was conducted by the Chuncheon branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group with the citizens of Chuncheon at Pungmul Market on the 6th September.
'More the Better' is a volunteer programme that promotes emotional wellbeing through the sharing of companion plants and helps unite every member of society regardless of age or social status. Volunteers grow plants with care for a certain period of time and then donate them to people in need of emotional support to share hope.
This activity involved time to communicate with citizens through the repotting of flower pots, recruitment of volunteers to raise flower pots, and surveys. A encouraging campaign was also held for public officers who are devoted to citizens, enhancing the purpose of the event.
An elderly person who participated in the activity said, “I came to Chuncheon during the Korean War, and I want to spend my remaining years growing plants,” and added, “Thank you for this repotting experience and volunteer service.”
Another citizen said, “I've participated in many volunteer activities, including for environmental purification, but I'm glad that I can provide a meaningful service and help just by growing plants.”
An official from the Chuncheon branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group said, “I'm proud to see a higher level of participation and response from citizens than expected through the 'More the Better' campaign.”
