We Are One Western Busan Branch (Director Hee-jae Yang) completed its blood donation campaign in the push to promote the importance and value of sharing the gift of life.
In celebration of the first anniversary of the launch of We Are One Youth Volunteer Group, the We Are Red life-sharing campaign '2023 Life ON Youth ON' was established to help stabilise the domestic blood supply crisis in South Korea while putting into practice the sharing of life.
'We Are Red' is a blood donation project of We Are One Youth Volunteer Group, driven by the core mission of 'saving lives'. About 40,000 young people are expected to actively participate in the blood donation campaign by October 31 this year.
Most recently, We Are One Western Busan successfully conducted a campaign at blood donation centres throughout Busan, including Seomyeon, Dongrae, Bujeon, Deokcheon, Hadan, and Sasang and as of September 1st, 1805 people participated in the blood donation, and 1404 completed the donation. On August 20th, a 'visiting bloodmobile' was operated near the bottom of Saha district to encourage more members to participate, and 101 people participated in 6 hours, and 77 completed a blood donation. As a result, the target number of blood donations has been achieved, but this life-sharing practice will continue until October 31st as scheduled.
Member Kim, who donated blood four times during the blood donation campaign, said, “I was worried about whether I would be able to donate blood due to poor health, but when I donated blood for the first time last year, I was surprised to experience that a life could be saved in just 15 minutes. I was proud that I was able to donate blood and will continue to actively participate in this gift of sharing life.”
Another member who donated blood four times during the blood donation campaign said, “I have participated in blood donation 118 times so far in order to save many lives by imitating the spirit of love and service of Jesus.” He added, “Sharing the gift of life and donating blood, which does not demand a big time commitment, has become an important part of my life.”
Hee-jae Yang, head of We Are One Western Busan, said, “It's meaningful that We Are One is conducting another blood donation service during the summer holiday season when blood is scarce. We would like to express our gratitude to We Are One members who are participating in giving blood.” He emphasised, “We hope to become one with many young people in the future and will take the lead in saving lives with one heart.”
Meanwhile, We Are One, which was launched in July 2022, carried out the 'Life ON Youth ON' life-sharing campaign nationwide to solve the severe blood shortage in South Korea, with over 100,000 people participating in the blood drive and 73,800 people successfully making a blood donation. Additionally, on October 2nd 2022, more than 100,000 people participated in the blood donation and 73,121 people successfully completed a blood donation, gaining official recognition by Guinness World Records.
