Youths of We Are One Yangpyeong Branch, Blood Donation Campaign 'Unfolds'
About 100 young people from the Yangpyeong branch of the youth volunteer group We Are One actively participated in the nationwide blood donation campaign at the parking lot on Heungcheong Street, Yangpyeong Town, South Korea, on the 17th August. In spite of the hot weather, the youths took the lead in saving lives with bright smiles.
Celebrating its first anniversary, the We Are One Youth Volunteer Group is conducting a blood donation campaign called 'We Are Red' to practice life sharing and alleviate the burden of the domestic blood supply crisis.
Two bloodmobiles were mobilised from local blood centres, and young people participated in the blood donation event in an orderly manner according to time slots.
Member Na-eun Park, who participated in the blood donation, said, “Actually, I had several major surgeries due to poor health in my family, and I know how difficult and important it is to get blood. I'm happy to be able to take part.”
Member Bo-mi Lee said, “The reason I wish to donate blood is to help those in critical need who are lacking blood and in need of surgery. That is why We Are One is truly doing valuable work.”
'We Are Red' is a blood donation project of We Are One Youth Volunteer Group, and about 40,000 young people are expected to actively participate in the blood donation campaign by October 31 this year, driven by the core mission to 'save life'.
An official from the Seoul Southern Blood Centre of the Korean Red Cross said, “It's true that the act of donating blood is very valuable, yet difficult to think of as 'fun'. Nevertheless, the volunteers prepared a fun blood donation event so we could work joyfully, and all participants returned home with smiles. The event was very impressive indeed.”
In response, Ki-seok Choi, head of the Yangpyeong branch of We Are One, said, “We will become a youth volunteer group that actively takes the lead in saving lives through blood donation activities.”
