In a world that is becoming increasingly desolate, the news of volunteerism and its expression of love for life and neighbour is spreading and warming the hearts of people in South Korea and beyond.
On the 26th August, a blood donation event was held at Yurim Park in Yuseong district, Daejeon, at the Korean Red Cross Daejeon Sejong Chungnam Blood Centre. This time, 3000 blood donation certificates were gifted by the Youth Volunteer Group We Are One Daejeon-Chungcheong Branch.
The blood donation certificates donated this time are a portion of the 73,807 blood donation certificates gifted across South Korea from August 27th to November 27th of last year by the donors of We Are One, who set out to provide practical help and alleviate the blood supply shortage caused by the prolonged COVID-19. The blood donation certificate was gifted out of the sincerity of the members of We Are One Daejeon-Chungcheong.
Jong-sul Park, director of the Korean Red Cross Daejeon Sejong Chungnam Blood Centre, who attended the donation ceremony, said, “I love We Are One.”
He continued, “You've carried out three pure life-sharing activities that are difficult to do even once. Firstly, you donated your precious blood; secondly, you donated the souvenir you received after donating blood; and thirdly, you even gifted the blood donation certificate to the Korean Red Cross.”
Director Park said, “It's easy to say in words, but carrying out such activities throughout one’s life is not easy to do in practice.”
“Donating blood is the only way to save the lives of patients in need of blood transfusion,” said Ja-wang Gu, Director of We Are One Daejeon-Chungcheong. “I am grateful to the members,” he said.
He continued, “I think it's very meaningful that 3000 blood donation certificates were donated to Daejeon-Chungcheong Blood Centre this time.”
'We Are Red' is a blood donation project of We Are One Youth Volunteer Group, driven by the core mission of 'saving lives'. About 40,000 young people are expected to actively participate in the blood donation campaign by October 31 this year.
