Youth volunteers from the Jecheon branch of We Are One held a blood donation campaign at the Oullim Sports Centre in Jecheon, South Korea, on the 7th August.
Despite the hot weather, 150 people personally donated blood at two bloodmobiles, and 97 donors were able to give a complete blood donation.
Celebrating its first anniversary, the We Are One Youth Volunteer Group prepared a blood donation campaign called 'We Are Red' to alleviate the burden of the blood domestic supply crisis.
'We Are Red' is a blood donation project of We Are One Youth Volunteer Group, and about 40,000 young people are expected to actively participate in this blood donation campaign by October 31 of this year, driven by the core mission statement to 'save life.'
The Jecheon branch of We Are One Youth Volunteer Group will conduct a blood donation campaign from July 21st to October 31st with the goal of receiving 260 blood donation applications and reaching 190 blood donations.
There is no blood donation centre in Jecheon, so with a spirit of volunteerism and a proactive attitude, the youth also visited blood donation centres in the cities of Wonju and Chungju to donate blood.
One member who participated in the blood donation expressed her feelings, saying, “If the blood I donate can save someone's life, what else can be more gratifying?”
An official from Chungbuk Blood Centre said, “Last year, 70,000 young people participated in the blood donation campaign, which was really surprising.”
Meanwhile, the We Are One Youth Volunteer Group was launched last year after receiving the answer of 'volunteering' as the most important and valuable act of youth, and consists of 70,000 young people in South Korea and overseas.
In order to resolve the blood supply crisis, brought on by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the 'Life ON Youth ON' campaign was carried out nationwide in 2022. More than 100,000 people participated in the blood donation and 73,800 people successfully completed a blood donation, gaining official recognition by Guinness World Records. The culture of blood giving is growing and is becoming a great example to the country and society.
